Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) using convenience sampling with a sample of 250 male students, analyzed on the basis of uses and gratifications theory. A large proportion of the respondents showed high levels of motivation for using AI tools, with another even larger subset showing moderate levels of motivation. The need for time efficiency developed as the top adoption driver, accompanied by academic benefits. Numerous participants preferred varying methods of learning, while another subgroup saw ease of use as paramount in choosing AI tools. Recommendations from peers had a large impact on making choices regarding use, with a majority of the respondents being happy to recommend AI tools to colleagues. In addition, a large section preferred using AI compared to conventional study processes. This study stresses the importance of gender inclusivity and the need to understand the various factors that affect AI technologies adoption in education.
